Your Learning

Please answer all of the following questions: (Make sure you proofread and use complete sentences)
1) After viewing Mr. Fisch's world-renown "Did you Know" powerpoint, what are some things that strike you about the facts presented? How does this make you think about the world and your place in it? How could this impact you?
1) What is the value of learning?
2) What is your role as a learner?

  1. 1)I was gone for the powerpoint so i need to know how i can see the powerpoint and then i can answer this question. If you could send it to me by e-mail that would be great.

    1) I believe that the value of learning is not just to become smarter but to teach you about life. Most people would think that life, jobs, and relationships would be easy but the truth is that there not. What people learn changes them completely. No one would be the same without learning. Learning makes everyone the person they are and directs them onto the right path.
2} Everyone plays a role as a learner, all different, but everyones in the same position. Some are better learners than others and some are the same just they dont express it as much. My role in learning is similar to all other students roles. Its not important what role i play in learning its that i play a role in it.

  2. 1) One thing that surprised me was that most schools are teaching students skills that are going to help us apply for a job that doesn't exist yet. Another fact that was surprising was that there are more honor kids in China then there are kids in the United States. All these facts in this powerpoint made me realize that there's a place in the world for everyone and that I will find my place in it very shortly if I keep on learning and trying my best.

    1) I believe that the value of learning is to become smarter but to also learn from your mistakes and find your true place in this world. Learning isn't easy and we all make mistakes but the point of making a mistake is to learn from them and to thrive from them.
"The only real mistake is the one from which we learn nothing." - John Powell

    2) My role as a learner is to make mistakes and to be able to learn and thrive from them. Without mistakes there is no learning, and without learning we will never find our true place in this world.

  3. 1. Mr. Fisch's "Did you know powerpoint" was very interesting. Before viewing it, i did not know that we are being trained for jobs that don't exist yet, with technology that has not been invented so far. This made me think, how can the schools train us for jobs that are not there yet. how can they know that what we are learning wont be useless in the future. It is like making a kid the captain of a boat, they wont know what to do and no one else would be able to help them as they are out at sea.

    2. In my opinion, learning is a nesessity. if we had no prior experience in life then the future will be very difficult. we would be unable to get a job, or get a home. If we know nothing we have learned from school we would be unable to function in life and life could not progress, and humanity would be unable to evolve.

    3. As a learner my job is to ask questions, to learn as much as possible, and be as active as possible. I need to learn to grow, and if i don't do anything then i wont learn anything outside of class. I would have no friends. It is vital to learn or i wont be a functioning member of society.

  4. One of the facts the really got me, was that India and china have more honor kids than America has kids. When I think about this, it amazes me how many people are out there. Everyone has a place in this world. We just need to find it.
I came from a small middle school, so Arapahoe seems huge to me. But, when I think about the whole world and every single person living in it, it makes me dizzy. It also makes me want to change things in the world. It makes me want to help people who are hurting and lost. I want to help them find their place and I want them to know that they have a voice. It just needs to be heard.
I believe that there is no value of learning. That knowledge doesn’t have a set price. We learn every day through change and experience. Every thing about life changes, all the time. When the PowerPoint said that schools are preparing us for jobs that don’t exist yet, it made me think about how much can change over the course of one lifetime.
My role as a learner used to seem unimportant. There are millions of kids out there just like me, that have to go to school and do homework. But, after seeing this PowerPoint I realize that just one tiny voice can effect the world and start a chain reaction. If one person speaks out, others will be inspired to do the same. We learn from experience, change and each other. Maybe, by learning, we can change the world.

  5. One of the facts that really got to me, was that in the year 2023 second graders at the age of 22 will have their first job careers. When I think about this, it surprised me because I don't think second graders at the age of 22 will have a job career in the year 2023. This makes me think that the around the world every second grader at the age of 22 will have a job in 2023 but what will those jobs look look like for the second graders.
I don't think this will impact me at all because second graders will not have a job at the year 2023.

The value of learning is when students take their time to pay attention to learn about topics or what the teachers have to say.

The role for me as a learner is to pay attention to hear and listen what the teacher is saying and to have a good attitude towards the learning environment of education.

  6. 1.After viewing Mr. Fisch’s “Did you Know” I was struck by how schools are trying to prepare kids for jobs that are not even around yet. This makes me think that the world is changing fast and that my spot in it has yet to be discovered. This could impact me because it could change what I decide to do with my life.
1.I think the value of learning is to teach you about many different things that could not be taught if you do not have the opportunity to experience them but also to get better after you have made the mistake.
    2. I think my role as a learner is to try to learn as much as possible and to remember the things that I think will have the most impact on my life.

  7. 1) After viewing the “did you know” power point my perspectives on some things have changed. A fact that struck me was that by 2049 a computer that will cost $1000, will exceed the capabilities of the human race. That is how advanced technology is becoming today. I think that if technology can do that then it can probably do anything.

    2) The value of learning is essential to your life. If you don’t learn in school or learn from your mistakes, then you can not apply yourself to the world around you.

    3) My role as a learner is to apply myself and try to learn. If you do try then you can’t do it, and if you don’t apply yourself then you can’t learn. You have to pay attention take good notes and listen to become a good learner.

  8. 1. After viewing Mr. Fisch’s world-renowned power point, there were some very interesting things that struck me. First, when he said that we are teaching and preparing kids for jobs that do not even exist yet. That struck me because teachers have to prepare kids for jobs that do not even exist yet. This impacts me because I am one of those kids that will need one of these jobs. Another fact that really struck me was how many instant messages were sent in a day. Those totals exceed the amount of people in the world in just one day. That fact made me feel very small in the world.
    1. Students need to hold learning at a very high value. Learning is knowing that everything you do builds on something else. For example homework is not just to have something to do at night, but it is to practice what you have learned that day. Everything you do is learning and we always have to be ready to learn.
    2. My role as a learner is to be open and ready for new things to come along. There will be new technologies that will come out that I will have to learn and use. With every new experience that I have, I will be learning.

  9. 1)After viewing the PowerPoint one thing that surprised me the top 10 jobs in the future do not even exist yet. And that you teachers don't even know what you're teaching us to do. Another thing that struck me was that MySpace was a country it would be the fourth-largest in the world.

    1) learning is a valuable part to society. If we did not have it we would all still be cave men. But we do have it has created what society is today.

2)My role as a student is to gain all knowledge I can and be ready for this technology age.

  10. 1. The power point “Did you know” was very interesting to me. I had actually seen it multiple times and each time brought a new amount of surprise. The fact that India has more honor student then we do students is something really amazing. The fact that we are being prepared for jobs that don’t even exist yet is also mind blowing. This impacts me and all of my class mates in many different ways. I’m sure some of us have an idea of what we want to be when we grow up, I know I do, and that could totally change in just ten short years.
    1. The value of learning is different for different people. It’s not all about getting good grades and doing great in school. Learning goes deeper than that. It is really preparing us for the outside world. Everyone gets to chose where they want to go in life. Hopefully they are learning skills that will help them on that path.
    2. My role as a learner is to take in new information willingly. That’s why we have school, it’s helping us learn as much as we can to become what we want to become. Mistakes are a part of being human, it ok to make them, as long as you learn from them. That is one thing I have learned to accept over the years.

  11. 1) I found the PowerPoint somewhat chilling. After all, when human thinking becomes obselete, what will happen to the human race? When a computer is made that makes humanity's remaining usefulness dissapear, well, the terminator movies dont sound as ridiculous now. And on the topic of nonexistent jobs that we are being trained for, I have always had, and still do, have trouble with the question of "what do you want to be when you grow up," and now i know why.
    2) the value of learning is such that, in this world, if you had the same credentials and education as someone with entering the job market 20 years ago, you wouldnt get a job of the same caliber today. you need to know how to type, e-mail, and do many things that poeple a few years ago would never have even imagined.
    3) as a student, i have a responsibility to gain the knowledge and abilities to make me successful in a career, in life, and in this new, technological age.

  12. 1) After watching in class Mr. Fisch's amazing PowerPoint "Did you know", one thing that stayed in my mind the rest of the day and that struck me the most was that the number of text messages sent a day exceeds the population of the planet. That made me think that we in this world are now being controlled by our cell phones and electronics. Its just getting bigger and more popular for teens and now even for adults to be texting non stop and to never be able to stay off phones or leave the house without them in hand. This could impact me by realizing how rapped up in technology teens are becoming and how important things like cell phones and other electronics are going to become to this world later on down the road and for the rest of my life.

    2) In my own opinion, learning is something in life that is truly needed. Otherwise we would not be as successful in life and as technologically advanced in society. Kids now are being taught and prepared for jobs that do not even exist yet in today's world. So the value of learning is truly expanding and making everyone prepared for the world up ahead.

    3) My role as a learner is to take in all that I need to succeed and gain knowledge that is needed for me to push me to be my greatest.

  13. After watching Mr. Fisch’s “Did you Know” Powerpoint, some things that really struck me were facts such as by 2012 there will be a $1000 laptop with the compatibilities of a human brain, that school is preparing you for jobs that won’t exist, and the fact that China has more Honors students than America has kids. When you think about it carefully, it could mean that movies such as I Robot, Terminator, and others may eventually become reality. I have even recently heard on the news that the military is planning to eventually create robots with their own decision making abilities. Also noting that jobs like being a Lawyer or a farmer might not exist made me wonder if the job I plan to have as I get older will be gone. The way in which I personally could be impacted by these facts is chilling to think about. Does that mean that I could get a College Degree in Marine Biology, and then 10 years later be jobless, or that maybe the Human race could become Computer’s tools instead of the other way around?

At first I valued learning greatly, for in my opinion it was the door to the job which I please, a nice house, and eventually retirement. However, after viewing the PowerPoint it made me wonder if it was really important. Later in life a college degree for an obsolete job probably won’t matter, think about all the people in the 20th century with jobs as an Operator, that doesn’t even matter these days.

My role as a learner used to seem unimportant, the fact that millions of people are going for the job I want made it seem useless. However, by viewing this PowerPoint I realized how just one voice can be the spark to ignite many more. Now I feel that my life will have a large impact on this world and look forward to learning.

  14. 1) After watching Mr. Fisch's PowerPoint, one thing really struck me. I couldn't believe we are being taught content pertaining to jobs that don't currently exist. That surprised me. I thought we were being taught content that pertains to today's jobs, not tomorrows. This made me realize the jobs pertaining to the world are always changing. I strongly believe I will have a job that doesn't currently exist.

    2) Learning is required in order to succeed in life. Without learning, we may not be as technologically advances as today.

    3) My role as a learner is to understand everything I am taught and to try my best to learn what I don't know.

    ReplyDelete
  15. 1) In the power point one thing that really strikes me is that teachers are preparing students for jobs that do not even exist yet. One other thing that strikes me is that there is a place for everyone in this world. That we all have somewhere that we belong whether it is we belong in politics or belong in schools as teachers; we all have a place no matter what our interests are.
    2) The value of learning to me is very important I think that we all need to learn. It is a proven fact that we all learn something new each day no matter what age you are. The value of learning is so important because there is so much that we can learn in a day or in a lifetime.
    1) My role as a learner is to accept new knowledge and have an attitude of wanting to learn. If someone has an attitude of (oh well I already know it all), they r not going to be able to except anything new because they will think there is nothing else to learn.

  16. 1) The "Did You Know" video definetely made me think alot. The video itself was astonishing and powerful. All the facts were crazy but the most shocking was about how our generation will have a computer smarter than a human brain. This really impacted me and made me realize how different my future will be.

    1) The value of learning is taking the time to fill your mind with knowledge to prepare you for the future.
    2) My role as a learner is to get all the education I can to better my future and the future of those around me.

  17. This power point really changed me in so many ways. The ways the world changes in a short period of time is so amazing. It shows me that I could use this information to make a difference in this world.

The values of learning would be to take this information and try to put it to use in any way possible. My role as a learner is to make a difference in school and others around me.

  18. After watching Mr. Fisch's power point, "Did You Know," several things really hit me. It really made me think, were not the only ones. We've made it seem that its all about us, when in truth, were nothing. Compared to places like China and India, we have nothing. Mrs. Comp always says we have a voice, and we think, what can we say that would change the world? Were just one person, in a small conceided country. However, one voice can influence another and another.
1.The value of learning is great. If you didn't learn, how would you survive in this advanced world? Learning is such a value that we are fortunate to have, that others don't. Why waste it? The value of learning builds upon itself. If you don't know something, how do you expect to move on and learn more, when you can't comprehend what you have.
    2. This affected my learning by wanting to prove that we indeed can do it, even though China might be way ahead of us, we can do our best and that's a lot. I will also be a technological learner. He said a lot about how our country is heading to all the advances in technology, and we need to be prepared for jobs and life that doesn't even exsist yet. That reall struck me because our country and race is advancing so quickly, that we have to be prepared for what's coming and who knows what that could be. He had said they're working on a computer as smart as the human mind, and that is going to need some preperation. My role as a learner is to be prepared for what's beyond. We don't know what will be in the future, but we need to be prepared for the unknown.

  19. 1. Some thing that struck me in Mr. Fisch’s world-renown “Did you Know” PowerPoint, was that over the whole world is that our teachers are getting use ready for jobs that are not even created yet, because it shows how much our human raise has improved in the last couple years. And it just hit me how much our teachers are actually helping us for the future.

1and 2. It makes me think that the world and all the kids in it, we are getting what we need to know early so when we are done with school we wont be lost in how big it truly is out there. To me the value of learning is to know what we need to know for the future even if its like 8 or 10 years of school but who cares your going to need what the teachers are teaching us today. So that puts my role as a learner as trying my hardest to get what I need for the future and have fun doing it.

    2. Over the summer I read Flags of my fathers and Code talkers these two books were about the same thing but from two different points of view. For example in Flags of Our Fathers there was a group of men that roes the flag of America on the japans’ island and how hard and emotional it truly was. And in Code talkers its an native solider how they used his language to make a code that no one could understand besides him and his native culture. And this book meant so much too me because of how they both tie in together for the same purpose for our safety and peace.

  20. Mr.Fisch's powerpoint really showed me how important technology is becoming in our everyday life. I was shocked by the idea that in 2013 there will be a computer as smart or smarter then humans. Its amazing that something like that is even in reach of being acomplished. The powerpoint is helping students because if teachers dont teach us about computers and things like that. No one will be able have a well paying job in the future.

    1) Learning has a lot of value because it is information that can connect to everything we do in life. If we can learn we can challenge ourself to do anything we may desire.
    2) My role as a learner is to simply chanlenge myself to be able to learn more and retain more information. The more information I can absorb the better off I or anyone will be.

    ReplyDelete
  21. After watching the Powerpoint, I was stunned by some of the facts presented. Initially, I came to Arapahoe to prepare to enter college. I learned that I must continually expand my knowledge. For example, it explained that half of what we learn as a freshman in college will be outdated by our junior year. I was astounded how important the internet has become. Life is focused around my space and other internet sites. I have learned the necessity of learning continually. If I relax, the world will pass me by.

  22. 1) That PowerPoint was so cool because of the facts about how much we have advanced in ten years and how much we still are advancing every 10 seconds. It amazes me!

    2) I think the value of learning of course depends on the individual but when you take in to account the hopes and dreams of everyone graduating in 2013 we all hope to make it to a good college, be successful, and grow up finely educated. So to me that is the value of learning.

    2) My role as a learner is to act the way a true warrior acts without disrupting the learning environment. We also need to take what information you teachers have given us and put it to good use.

  24. 1) The one thing that really surprised me the most about the PowerPoint is that China will soon be the number one English speaking country in the world. Another point that really surprised me is that there are 3,000 new books made daily in the world.
    1) The value of learning is not only the teacher to teach but, for the students to learn. Like how my 8th grade math teacher said it’s not his job to teach but it’s our job as students to learn.
    2) As a student it is our main job to learn new things. All of us as different individuals learn differently. But all of us have a role in class and that is to learn NOT to goof off with our friends or make jokes all the time but to learn.

    ReplyDelete
  25. 1) What struck me the most was that China has more honor kids than the US has kids. One more fact that struck me was that the powerpiont started 19 million conversations. The “Did you Know” made me think about the impact I might have on the world and the impact anybody could have on this entire planet.
    1) The value of learning is to better yourself so you can obtain the job of your dreams. Or to get into the college you’ve always wanted to get into. To get those things seek you have to be willing to learn though and like I stated before better yourself.
    2) My role as a learner is to be respectful of others who are also trying to learn, pay attention, and most importantly trying my hardest to succeed in school and life.

  26. 1. Mr. Fisch’s “Did You Know” power point was one of the more intriguing presentations I have seen in a while. A lot of those facts were very surprising to me. One fact that really stood out to me was the fact that all the honors students in China are greater than the US population. This made me feel small in comparison to the world. This made me think my place in the world was very small. You have spoken many times about finding your “voice” in the first couple days in your class room. I think I have a voice but after viewing that presentation I seemed to lose it for a few moments.

    1. In my opinion, the value of learning is to not just get smarter, but to grow as people, gain knowledge form experience and learn about life in general. Education, like math and science, is not everything. Don’t get me wrong every person in the world should have a form of education, but as a 14 year old who is still a child in the world, I would much rather learn about life then about what the square root of 46 is. Gaining knowledge and experience as a person forms who you are.
    2. My role as a learner is different than anyone else’s, as theirs is different from each other. I see myself as a good learner who doesn’t put it to good use. While I see others learn and apply knowledge to themselves within the next day. Others may not be good learners but learn from mistakes of their own. We all play different roles in the world of learning, I’m just glad to play a role at all

  27. 1) One thing that struck me while watching the powerpoint was the fact that we are learning for jobs that havent been invented yet. What I would really like to know is how they know what to teach us, and what jobs some of our generation will end up with in the future. It's crazy.

    1) The value of learning is much greater than for the grades we recieve, or to impress those you need to.You learn for your life. IF you want a good job, to go to college, you learn for that.

    2) As a learner, it is my job to learn as much as I can when I can, so that I may succeed in life.

  28. 1. I really think that The fact describing the Myspace Country was really Interesting. I Find it so weird also how China is the # 1 English speaking country in the world! That really made me awe in amazement! I know we are supposed to be very careful and willing with our writing but I also think that we should be graded on our story telling and strong sense of senseless knowledge that has been stored in our head, I know that We are being taught to write well but the chances of us all being writers Etc is A slim to none chance But I really Am please that you take the time to help us succeed to become better Human beings.
I know Im getting off topic and Im sorry.
Anyways, I was recently on the FischBowl blog and Noticed how many People follow this! Its almost cult-Like! Haha, Still I find Mr. Fisches powerpoint to Be extremely cool!

    2. The value of a learner cant really be Answered or Summed up do to the fact that everyone learns at different paces. Some people find school to be a waste of space while others think that the Government should put more tax dollars into the cracks of our academic standards. Frankly, I dont know what to say about The value of a Learner except, You cant put a price tag on Knowledge.

    3. My role as a Learner is to probably learn at my own pace And take things one step at A time, I cant rush the fact That I dont learn As fast as other's. Then again I cant stop people to go slow and push me behind. My role is to take on the character Of a Young mind with the capability of trying as hard as he/she can possibly do. My lines are the assignments I have been given and to repeat what I have learned. I am a Virgin Mind and I am here to try my hardest.

PS. this is Zach Schulte, Im working on getting My name fixed.

  30. 1)i really thought all the facts were interisting. Expecially the ones about the computer be smarter than the human race. that would be pretty crazy.the way he set it up made it more interesting and the music.

1)i guess the value of learning is that as you grow and time passes you learn. when your a little kid you learn everyday and are excited. when your bigger you learn everyday also but dont get as excited. i really think learning is what you make it to be. but it is very important and one of the reasons to live to learn and grow.

2)my role as a learner i think is pretty simple. It is that dont make learning a thing you have to do, make it a thing you want to do.

  31. 1)Mr. Fisch's powerpoint was very interesting, I would have never guessed that China would be the largest English speaking country in less than a decade. The video didn't really change the way I thought about my place in the world but it did open my eyes to things going on all around the world and how people are getting a lo smarter. In my opinon these facts could impact me in quite a few ways such as if other country like China and India get smart enough they could create new technology's of warfare and that would'nt be so good. Also it will probally be a lot harder to get a job because there more demand for them back in the 70's and now if other people from other smart country's come in they could take most of the job fare.

1)The value of learning varies from person to person, in my opinion, learning is just a way to get into a good college and job. It also makes you a smarter person.

2)My role as a leader, i don't really consider myself as a leader but hopely I can one day consider myself as a leader.

  32. 1) I thought that a striking fact is that China has more honor students than we the United States have kids. This makes me feel like a very small part of this world. It seems like there are so many other kids out there to compete with. My views went from competing with the 500 kids in my class to the millions of kids around the world. There are only so many jobs out there and way too many kids for them.
    1) The value of learning is tremendous, its slowly turning into a matter of survival. The kid with the better education will triumph over the other kids who didn't do as well in school, and with only so many jobs avalible education becomes the difference between life and death.
2)my role as a learner is to keep open to all the new ideas and as up to date as possible with all the new technologies and changing points of view.
